Dodson Branch School Celebrates Director Of Schools With Food Drive

Dodson Branch School is holding a food drive to celebrate Jackson County Director Of School Jason Hardy.

Principal Brian Lee said the food drive is accepting non-perishable items to support Jackson County parents needing to take care of students during the upcoming holiday breaks. Lee said school officials wanted to honor Hardy in a way that kept focus on students.

“We can give them monetary things or something of that nature,” Lee said. “But we try to do something that helps other people, and the superintendent had rather do that and, you know, help students of Jackson County that just his normal way of doing things.”

The school is celebrating Hardy as a part of Superintendent Appreciation Month. Monday marks the final day to give. Lee said the event gives students an opportunity to learn the importance of giving.

“Sometimes it’s hard for a younger student, or even a middle school student, to find ways to help in their community, but, you know, this is a way that they can participate in that as much as they can,” Lee said.

Lee said that the food assistance will help families struggling in the current economic climate.

“Food prices have went up and pay has not necessarily kept up with that,” Lee said. “So anything that we can do as a school system to kind of help those, it’s wonderful.”
