The Putnam County Fairest of the Fair is asking the community to donate school supplies for a statewide charity.
Every year the State Fairest of the Fair Pageant does a humanitarian project. This year they are donating supplies to schools in need. Kayla Mick is helping gather donations from the local community to do her part for the project.
“It’s so much more than just the crown and the sash,” Mick said. “So many times pageants are stereotyped as just dressing up and walking around, but I truly have had such a great opportunity through pageantry to help those in need. It’s giving me a lot of community service hours. It’s just so special to help those who can benefit from these humanitarian projects.”
Mick said she has been balancing getting things together for the humanitarian project and preparing for the state pageant.
“It takes a lot of preparation,” Mick said. “I’m really excited to represent our county. I’ve been working on interview and walking. I’ve been getting my wardrobe together.”
Donations are being accepted at the Tennessee Tech Counseling Center. They are being collected by the 1987 Putnam Fairest of the Fair Christina Mick.
“I’ll be collecting them to take to Murfreesboro where the State Pageant is with me on January 15,” Mick said. “I have to have everything counted out by then, and then Naudia Buchanan who is the current State Fairest of the Fair, will be donating these items and dropping these off at schools January 21.”
As part of being the current Tennessee Fairest of the Fair, Buchanan got to pick the humanitarian project for the State Pageant.
“I know she’s very passionate about helping kids in need,” Mick said. “Pageants really are more than just the crown and the sash. It’s all those great opportunities to help those in need. I really think it’s awesome she is gong towards this cause.”
Tennessee Association of Fairs Fairest of the Fair Pageant will be held at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro on January 19.
