Warren Executive Awarded Middle Tennessee Aging Champion Award

Warren County Executive Terry Bell has been recognized as a Champion For The Aging.

The Tennessee Federation for the Aging gives the award to an official who champions issues for senior citizens. Bell recently secured a new facility for the senior center in Warren County.

“I’m actually really thankful to have received the award, because our senior population is one that I really feel needs a lot of attention,” Bell said. “They worked hard all their life, and we want to provided them with the best services we can. So, it was a great honor.”

Bell said the new senior center is only the first step he has taken in helping the Seniors in Warren County. Bell received the award at the TFA Conference in Gatlinburg. The conference features educational seminars, vendors that cater to the senior population and hold a banquet where recondition is given.

“It’s important for you to get those that work in that industry, all the senior center directors and of course many other agencies, and they can collaborate and just teach each other better ways to serve the senior population,” Bell said.

Bell said the new Warren County Senior Center, and potentially UCARTS, will be in the Three-Star Mall.

“We’re looking to help UCARTS in our county to move right beside our senior center, so it’ll be convenient for them when they need transportation to and from the senior center,” Bell said. “They will be able to do kind of a one-stop-shop deal there.”

The TFA conference had a record 336 people in attendance. The TFA is a non-profit organization with the primary goal of increasing the overall well being of Tennessee’s aging population.

“There’s a lot of good people doing a lot of good thing for the aging in the Middle Tennessee area, and I really appreciate it,” Bell said. It’s a heartfelt award, and I thank them for it.”
