Local Power Companies, TVA Asking For Lower Energy Use Tuesday Night

Local power companies across the Upper Cumberland asking you to limit your power consumption during the next 18 hours.

Temperatures near zero will be the coldest the region has seen since Christmas, 2022 when TVA imposed rolling blackouts to deal with energy consumption. TVA officials, working with local companies, invested money and time to limit the chances of that happening again.

TVA asked local companies to encourage customers to cut their energy consumption, especially between 6am-10am Wednesday morning. Among the requests, set thermostats at 65-68 degrees, unplug unused electronics, avoid early morning usage of washer/dryers and dishwashers.

“Conservation requests are often used in the power industry to help lower demand during a specific time and does not indicate TVA is experiencing emergency conditions,” TVA said in a statement Tuesday.

The total system load record was set in August, 2007.
