Fair To Remain At Current Putnam Fairgrounds For One More Year

The Putnam County Fair will remain at the current Fairgrounds for one more year as construction continues at the new Tennessee Avenue location.

Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said after conversations with the developers of the new Fairgrounds, this timeline makes the most sense. He said the county awaiting word on if it will be chosen for the new VA clinic also played a role in the decision.

“We’ll make sure we’ve got everything all done,” Porter said. “Everything fixed and ready. So, we were rushing to try to do that, but this just freed us up to not have to be stressed out trying to make it happen and be able to have it at the old Fairgrounds for another year.”

Porter said the county would also prefer to have the new convention center completed before the New Fairgrounds are used. He said winter weather in early January also created a short setback that made this feel like the most sensible decision.

“You never know what the rest of the months of winter are going to hold or spring if it’s wet,” Porter said. “So, this just was, we think, a good decision to make sure we get everything working at the new one and not be rushed, and just a good benefit for everyone.”
