Hope Church Excavations For New Community Playground

Algood’s Hope Church has broken ground on a new community playground after the previous playground exceeded its lifespan.

Pastor Jason Yarbrough said the church has a long history of community involvement in Algood and this shared space is a continuation of that. He said the new playground will be a significant upgrade.

“Until the last couple of years when the quality of our previous playground declined pretty significantly, we had constant traffic out there,” Yarbrough said. “So, I think we’re probably going to be surprised at the amount of traffic we get because it’s going to look pretty good.”

Yarbrough said the space was designed by the same company that built the playground at the Nashville Zoo. He said it would include ziplines and be accessible for kids with wheelchairs and other mobility challenges. He said he hopes to have it open in May.

“We’re doing things that will hopefully last for generations,” Yarbrough said. “So it’s not just us, it’s for the people that will come after us. Leaving a legacy. So, everything we do, we try to do it in mind of not just what’s good for now, but what will serve our community and our people into the future.”

Yarbrough said the playground will be moved next to the church so that children do not have to cross the street to access it. He said church leadership has known for quite a while that a new playground was needed, so when discussions began, no one had to be convinced to get a project rolling.

“If we were going to do anything, there was never a question that it wouldn’t be available to everyone in the community because that’s just the DNA of our church,” Yarbrough said.
