3 UC Counties In Unemployment Top 10


Unemployment dropped in every Tennessee county in February, but three Upper Cumberland ended February among the state’s ten highest unemployment rates.

Cumberland and Pickett Counties both tallied 4.1 unemployment rates in February while Clay County reported a 3.9 rate. Cumberland County saw its rate decrease some 1.1 percent from January to February. Both Clay and Pickett saw decreases of 0.9 percent.

Some 989 residents are currently unemployed in Cumberland County.

Nationally, the unemployment rate stands at 3.9 percent, according to Labor Department data.

Putnam County’s unemployment rate dropped some 0.8 percent in February, to 2.9 percent. That’s the same number as White County. Overton County’s rate stood at 3.3 percent. Warren County finished February at 3 percent of the workforce unemployed.

Moore County reported the state’s lowest unemployment rate for February, some 1.9 percent. Cocke County recorded the state’s highest rate at 4.7 percent. The decrease in unemployment across the state led each county to post rates under 5 percent.
