The Putnam Education Partnership will gather next week for its first major fundraising event, a lunch to support its work with the Putnam County Schools.

PEP Foundation Executive Director Katelyn Steakley said the event will raise money for the foundation’s work and showcase students inside the school system.

“It’s going to be really exciting to share all the things that we’ve had going on over the past few years,” Steakley said. “We’ve expanded as an organization. We originally started as the backpack program and that’s been happening for a number of years, where we serve food on a weekly basis to students. In the Putnam County school system, we have over 800 students that receive that food on Fridays that are experiencing food insecurity. But a couple years ago, we expanded and we started investing in a student needs fund.”

That fund helps students and families dealing with emergencies. Steakley said the organization also supports efforts in school safety, teacher appreciation, performance arts grants among other areas.

“We’ll be able to talk about all of those things and really look forward to that big next step where we keep going and can push forward as an organization and continue to invest in the students in Putnam County,” Steakley said.

The event takes place April 9 at the River Community Church. The luncheon begins at Noon. Students will support the event, assisting in catering, decor, and special performances.

“We’re looking for partners to come alongside us on our mission to strengthen the community by removing barriers to student achievement,” Steakley said. “That’s our goal as an organization, and you’ll find that at the center of all of our funds and programs that we’re raising money for.”

Those interested in attending the luncheon can visit PepTN.Org. Steakley said they are looking for a few more table hosts if you would like to help.
