Park View School Project Now Behind Schedule

Construction of Putnam County’s new Park View School has now fallen at least a month behind.

Upland Design Representative Aaron Grohol told the Putnam County School Board Thursday night that the contractor’s timeline has been pushed back to late June or even early July. He said rainy weather has contributed to the delays.

At its March meeting, the School Board heard “from a schedule standpoint, we’re still looking at late May, early June for that one to wrap up.” Board Member Lynn McHenry said it does not add up.

“The weather has been exceptional this year,” McHenry said. “Wet has not been the issue, not that it doesn’t delay things. I get that completely. I’ve used it before and I do, but you expect it because that’s this time of year, and this time of year has not been abnormally wet.”

Grohol said brick delays in September also played a role in the project falling behind. Putnam County Schools Maintenance Supervisor John Magura said he believes the job has been behind for several months, but the contractors had not updated the schedule in time for the school board to receive word.

“We discussed them working overtime, working Saturdays,” Magura said. “They know they have some time to catch up on and I think their full intent is to make up time.”

Grohol said biweekly construction meetings are held. Board Chair Kim Cravens said contractors might want to plan to have a representative present for the next school board meeting.

“That’s frustrating that there’s such a swing when I feel like most of the stuff shouldn’t have been affected by weather,” Cravens said.

Grohol said based on the new schedule, he expects most, if not all interior elements to be in place in June.

In other business, the board approved a new policy regarding professional attire expectations. Specifically, the change allows for nose piercings for teachers. Board Chair Kim Cravens offered a reminder that the amendment came from the Collaborative Conferencing Team.
