Sparta Police Switch To Truck For Replacement

Sparta Police will be adding a new pickup to the fleet, a replacement for a vehicle damaged in a high-speed chase.

Insurance will pay some $18,480 toward the purchase with the rest coming from the drug fund. Police Chief Nick Dunn said the department decided to switch from Explorers because they are less expensive.

“The ones we got before were 2.4 liters, these are V-8s,” Dunn said. “The gas mileage is actually better than what the explorers are anyway. That’s just a better vehicle than what we have been getting.”

Dunn said the vehicles still feature crew cabs if they have to transport a suspect. He said the difference is cost is “quite a lot.”
