Burks Elementary Vestibule Being Added For Security

Work set to begin on upgrades to Burks Elementary School’s front entrance.

Security Grant funds will be used to pay the $118,000 update to the school. Putnam County Director Of Schools Corby King said the system continues to update the entrance ways at many of the older facilities.

“It’s the security vestibules, and it is needed in all of our older buildings when we upgrade, when we retrofit or do any type of renovation,” King said. “This forces visitors when you come into the school to go into the office. Currently at Burks when you come in, like a lot of our other schools, if someone was meaning to do ill harm here, they would get in. They could get anywhere in the building before someone could get to them.”

The vestibule forces visitors through the office, where they must be checked out. King said a similar update was complete recently at Cookeville High School using state security money.

“Every year we get our allocation and we’re like, next one on the list, we’re adding a vestibule just to do the same thing,” King said.
