Fentress County’s Manna House holds its largest annual fundraiser Saturday to help keep the facility operating and fund its goal of preventing drug overdose.
Office Coordinator Jennifer Winningham said the attendees are invited to enjoy a meal and donate. She said the fundraiser keeps the lights on and the water running, but also works as a networking event. She said Fentress County residents can come out and meet with like-minded people who care about helping those who have been effected by the opioid epidemic.
“It’s just very important to try to reach and help as many people as we can to try to, you know, we know we’ll never stop it, but if we can slow it down and get as many people as we can on the road to recovery would be, you know, great,” Winningham.
Winningham said many people in other counties do not have a facility like this one to rely on for addiction assistance. She said with funds raised at this event, the Manna House can expand its reach.
“They care and, you know, they want to help as many people as they can in that way, where they can’t help in other ways,” Winningham said. “You know, I mean, it really shows the heart of our community.”
She said the event will include a bake sale and there may be shirts for sale. She said those who cannot make the event are invited to reach out to the Manna house over the phone or via the web and ask for more information about how to donate. She said all possible funding sources are of great value to nonprofits like this one.
“It’s kind of a public relations thing that we like to do also, to kind of bring the community in,” Winningham said.
She said the Manna House has plans to implement new programs this year that will need require additional funding. She said she looks forward to dining with the generous people of Fentress County and working toward making a difference in the ongoing opioid epidemic.
