Van Buren Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday

Van Buren County’s Spencer Recycling Center will host a Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday from 8am-Noon.

Pesticides, aerosols, lithium and button batteries, brake fluid, paint thinner, and cleaning fluid are among the hazardsous items that can be disposed of, free of charge. The event is open to anyone, not just Van Buren County residents.

The items cannot be placed in landfills, for environmental reasons.

The event takes place at the Spencer Recycling Center, 879 Drake and Shokley Street.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation sponsor the event. More than 24 million pounds of material have been collected since the program in 1993.

Items that will not be accepted include alkaline batteries, paint, electronics, and ammunition.
