Jamestown Splash Pad Opens With Improved Accessibility

The Jamestown Splash Pad opened early to keep the children on summer break from having to leave town to use one.

Parks and Recreation Director Steven Brown said the community has been excited for the facility to start its second season. Brown said they have added a new accessibility feature to the pad since last summer.

“We have actually got the handicap ramp actually built and ready to work this year,” Brown said. “Because that was in the works last year, and of course the weather held us off, but we’ve got it done and got the parking lot repaved and it’s all looking really good.”

Brown said he has seen as many as two hundred kids playing at the pad within three hours on the weekend. He said the splash pad is one of the important ways that the city can give back to its community.

“This really helps the lower-income families that can’t afford to go to pools and to the lake and stuff and come to Livingston to a splash pad,” Brown said. “They can actually just come up here. It’s free of charge. They can sit and relax and let the kids enjoy the water.”

Brown said it is one of the biggest splash pads in the state at 60′ x 80′.

“It’s got a mushroom,” Brown said. “It’s got a double-headed flower. It’s got two sets of geysers. It’s got two sets of fountains, they call it. It’s got a mega dump. It’s got a fire hydrant that shoots water out in four directions. It’s got a double dump – bucket dump. And it’s got a – three water cannons, and it has four wet rings, and it has a double-sided slide.”

Brown said the splash pad is open seven days a week from 10:00am until dark, which is usually around 8:00pm. He said the pad will close sometime around Labor Day.

“We may extend the splash pad a little bit, but we shut the pool down on Labor Day,” Brown said.
