Summer Fair Season Begins In Clay This Week

The Upper Cumberland’s summer fair season begins in Clay County Tuesday.

The fair’s theme this year “A Groovy Kind of Fun” represents a throwback to the 60’s and 70’s. President Carla Rich said that includes new events such as Tie Dye demonstrations, a Hippie Outfit contest, and a hand drumming group.

“Really the mission for the Clay County Fair is just affordable family fun,” Rich said. “And we like to be able to provide that for the community, a place they can go and not have to spend a lot of money but just lots to do once they get inside the gate.”

Rich said fan favorites will be coming back, such as ATV races, a rodeo, lawnmower pull, livestock events, and a Horse Show. Rich said that the Fair is the is largest gathering in Clay County throughout the year.

“It’s an important way for all of the groups in Clay County to come together for one purpose,” Rich said.

Rich said that the fair provides a great opportunity for families and friends to have a night out. Preparing the county fair is not an easy task, Rich said.

“The fair is actually a year-round project because there are numerous activities and trainings and reports that we do throughout the year,” Rich said. “In addition to all of the planning that it takes to put a fair on, but all of our board is, they are all volunteers and they are happy to do their little part.”

Admission price of the fair is $5 and children of school age will be admitted free on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The fair start Tues at 4:00 P.M. and will end June 8th. Rich said she looks forward to the weeklong event.

“This is going to be a great week of fun,” Rich said. “We will have it rain or shine and we invite everybody just to come on out.”
