Monterey Aldermen Approve Budget On Final Reading

Monterey Board of Aldermen adopted a budget for the upcoming fiscal year after its third reading.

The budget includes a three percent property tax increase. The process began with a 17-cent increase. With effort and consideration, the board cut some of the tourism marketing and department purchases budget to compensate and prevent a more significant tax increase.

The board unanimously passed the budget. Alderman Alex Garcia said the town of Monterey has not had a property tax increase in 10 years.

The budget will officially go into effect July 1, 2024.
