Overton Chamber Receives Technology Grant

The Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce has received a grant to upgrade its technology and computer system.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said the TVA technology grant will provide the chamber with new computers and a projector with a motorized screen for the conference room. Cantrell said the change is a welcome one.

“It doesn’t take a whole lot of time for computers to get out of date and they have been here for probably well more than ten plus years,” Cantrell said. “And they are becoming quite challenging to deal with.”

Cantrell said residents can expect more efficient and reliable service as a result of the grant. Cantrell said the conference room will now be easier to operate and will now be able to properly support Zoom calls.

“Currently our conference room is not set up to handle a proper Zoom call effectively,” Cantrell said. “And being able to, you know, facilitate these larger meetings with the equipment needed. Well, number one, it increases our professionalism and number two it allows us to be able to have these meetings without the constant trouble of keeping connection.”

Cantrell said the $3,500 upgrades will also make the conference room a better space to rent for local businesses.

“I do know it’s been challenging for other organizations when they rent our room,” Cantrell said. “Sometimes it’s challenging for them to get our TVs to work with their computers.”

Cantrell said the grant also provides a computer for one employee who only has a laptop. The ultimate beneficiary, Cantrell said, is Overton County.
