Tech Freshman Enrollment On The Rise, Nearing Some 2K

Tennessee Tech faculty are preparing for a busy 2024 with increased enrollment numbers across the board.

President Phil Oldham said this will be the third consecutive year with freshman enrollment hovering around 2,000 students. He said he expects to surpass last year’s freshman enrollment count, while 2022 remains the highest total in school history.

“It’s actually a little scary for me,” Oldham said. “Because everything is trending up, which makes me nervous. You know, freshmen are up, transfers are up, graduate students are up. It’s unusual to have it all trending positive.”

Oldham said total enrollment is tracking at some 10,000 students, also up from last year. He said he is excited to see the school continue to grow and looks forward to projects underway that will enhance the student experience.

Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said the secret is finally out.

“My guess is, it won’t be quite as good as it looks right now, but it’s a good place to be,” Oldham said.
