Jefferson Repave Now More Two Years Away

Been bouncing around on the uneven pavement along Cookeville’s Jefferson Avenue? Be prepared to keep bouncing.

T-DOT not expected to repave the section from I-40 to the Putnam County Courthouse until 2026-2027, according to T-DOT officials.

The City of Cookeville began a $1.9 million sewer rehab project on that stretch of road in early 2024 in preparation for the repaving. Underground pipes were replaced in several areas in a large-scale upgrade. City officials said they expected the repaving this summer.

A T-DOT spokesperson said a finalized schedule is still being nailed down.

Meantime, work continues on the expansion of Jefferson Avenue between Interstate 40 and Highway 111. At least another year-plus of work on that project remains.
