Sparta Installing New Park Playgrounds

Installation underway for new playground equipment at Sparta’s South Carter Park and Wallace Smith Park.

Sparta Mayor Jerry Lowery said the city budgeted $150,000 to replace the playground equipment for both parks. Lowery said he hopes the new equipment will be more enjoyable for children to play on.

“I just think they will have a better place,” Lowery said. “We’ve expanded a little bit and we’ve added some more newer stuff that kids like to play on and we’ve added a swing or two because that is something that people have asked as they like swings, so that’s what we are going to do and we are going to upgrade it.”

Lowery said the equipment will not be made out of wood and should last longer than the previous equipment. Lowery said the new equipment is a way to invest back into the community.

“This is using tax dollars to turn back into what the people use,” Lowery said. “I think that’s important for the government. A lot of times government wants to spend money on themselves and we need to return that back to the community and this is one way that we can do that.”

Lowery said he is not sure how long it will take to install the equipment at both parks. Lowery said he hopes to have the equipment installed at both parks by Christmas time. Lowery said the playgrounds will be blocked during the time of installation.
