Pivotal Matchups Shape UC Schedule Tuesday

Late January brings a sense of urgency for teams aiming to have their district tournaments played at their courts and a few matchups Tuesday night will go a long way in determining those sites.

The Warren County Girls hit the road to face Lincoln County. Despite a record below .500, the Lady Pioneers head into town 3-2 in the district. Lincoln County sports a 16-4 record, but holds a half game lead over Warren County in the district at 3-1, and lost their last game against top ranked Coffee County Friday night.

Cookeville heads to take on Wilson Central. The Lady Cavaliers win streak continued in a close battle with Lebanon Friday night, extending their streak to nine. They look to make it ten against a Wilson Central team whom they defeated earlier this month, but Wilson Central sports a 2-2 record in district play after defeating Smyrna Friday night.

Cumberland County will travel to face Bledsoe County. This matchup marks the Lady Jets’ last non-district game of the year. They square off against 2-10 Bledsoe County, but have won those two games in their last five contests.

Van Buren squares off with Moore County. Van Buren begins a two game homestand after playing their last four on the road. They face 17-3 Moore County, who has not lost since January 3rd.

Pickett County battles Clay County. Pickett looks to continue their district and regular season win streaks, which stand at 4-0 in the district and a six game win streak overall. Clay County heads home having won of their last four. The Bulldogs stand 3-2 in the district.

White County travels to Smith County. White County remains one of the best records in the Upper Cumberland, as they head into non-district play against Smith County 21-2 and undefeated in the district at 5-0.  Smith County sports a 15-6 record.

Jackson County battles for the second time with Monterey. Their first matchup saw Jackson County come out on top on January 14th. The win remains Jackson County’s lone win in the district.  Monterey at 1-14 looks for their first win in regulation this season.

York faces Stone Memorial. The two non-conference foes squared off in 2024, which saw York emerge victorious. Stone Memorial looks to turn their 2025 around after losing six of their last seven games.

In boys action, Cookeville and Wilson Central square off. Their first matchup came down to the wire a couple of weeks ago as Cookeville squeaked off of Wilson Central with a one-point victory, 56-55.  Free throws sealed the game late for the Cavaliers, who defeated Lebanon at home Friday night. Wilson Central looks to break a six game losing streak Tuesday night.

Pickett County battles Clay County. Much like the girls team, the Pickett boys also possess a 4-0 record in the district and a six game win streak overall. Clay County welcomes them, having gone 2-1 last week, including holding Red Boiling Springs to 18 points Friday night.

Cumberland County will travel to face Bledsoe County. Cumberland County lost to Upperman in district play Friday night. They look for a win against a 7-6 Bledsoe County team before resuming district play.

Van Buren squares off with Moore County. Van Buren looks to bounce back after a loss Friday night to South Pittsburgh. Moore County enters play 4-13, but stand 2-1 in the district, having won three of their last four.

White County does battle with Smith County. White County looks to change their fortunes after losing their last four district games. Smith County greets them Tuesday night with a 3-1 record in district play so far.

Jackson County faces Monterey. The Blue Devils look to continue their undefeated record against teams in the Upper Cumberland.  Monterey awaits them after defeating Watertown Friday night.

York looks for their first win of the year against Stone Memorial. York stands at 0-14 and faces a Stone Memorial team that saw their four game win streak end Friday night to Pickett County.

Warren County heads on the road to face Lincoln County. The Pioneers extended their win streak to 10 Friday night in a 57-50 win against Columbia. Lincoln County looks to break that streak, standing at 6-11 between two district opponents squaring off for the first and only time this regular season.
