Monterey To Take Bids On Police Station Repairs

Monterey Aldermen approved seeking bids Monday night for repairs at the Monterey police station.

Mayor Alex Garcia said the southwest corner of the building is in bad shape. Garcia said previous drainage issues from Whitaker Park are at fault.

“I guess and I am speculating here but we had a culvert issue underneath the building so the foundation of the building is being drugged down,” Garcia said. “We fixed the culvert underneath the building but we never fixed the foundation of the building so we are gonna get somebody out there to give us some quotes to see what we can do to sure that up.”

Garcia said he would like to address the building as soon as possible as the building’s condition continues to deteriorate. Garcia said there is a possibility the insurance company could drop the building from the policy if the building is not addressed.

“That’s not confirmed,” Garcia said. “So we won’t get that report till next week. If in fact they do we’ll see but that is not a confirmed thing.”

Garcia said he believes the building’s current condition has not affected the operations of the police department. Garcia said it could be a safety concern.

Garcia said the town will bid out the project for two weeks.
