District Seeding at Stake in Final Tuesday

With less than two weeks until district tournaments begin, some teams in the Upper Cumberland have clinched their positions, or in some cases, a regular season championship.

But every game on Tuesday remains imperative to how the remainder of February will shake out. In girls action Tuesday, Upperman heads to Sparta to face the Warriorettes. The Lady Bees look to keep hope alive for a number one seed and a share of the regular season championship as they face the only team above them in the district. White County stands 8-0 in the district, two games ahead of the Lady Bees of second place, and can clinch an outright regular season title with a victory tonight. White County defeated Upperman as part of their 13 game win streak back in January; they look to sweep the series against an Upperman team that comes in having won three straight.

Monterey faces York. Monterey looks for their first district win of the season and their first win since before Christmas. They face the Dragonettes of York, who stand undefeated in the district at 6-0 and can clinch an outright regular season title with a win tonight.

Pickett travels to Gordonsville. Pickett clinched their regular season title Friday night and faces a Gordonsville team who has lost four straight and has fallen to fourth place in the district.

DeKalb and Livingston square off. DeKalb looks for their first district win of the season, hoping to avoid a last place regular season finish. Livingston enters 4-4 in the district and could improve to second place in the district depending on other matchups around the Upper Cumberland in the next few days.

Jackson heads to Clay County. Jackson heads on the road with a 2-5 record in district play and will finish fourth place in the district. Clay County enters 11-12, having won five of their last six games.

Stone Memorial battles Cumberland. Cumberland looks to climb up the district ladder to second place with two games to go in district play. Stone Memorial enters 1-7, looking to avenge their loss from January 21st at home against Cumberland.

Cookeville welcomes Smyrna. The Lady Cavaliers look to remain in the hunt for first place after losing Friday night to Lebanon. They look to bounce back against a Smyrna team in search of their first win in the district.

Van Buren travels to Moore County. The Lady Eagles conclude their non-district play tonight, looking to improve their five game winning streak. Third ranked Moore County enters play on a ten game winning streak and looks to test themselves before a potential matchup in the state tournament in March. Moore County defeated Van Buren in January, 70-46.

Warren heads to Siegel. Warren looks to rebound before playing their final district game Friday against Lincoln County. They stand half a game behind Shelbyville for third place. Siegel enters tonight at 3-18.

In boys play, Monterey battles York. The Wildcats defeated Watertown Friday night and look for back to back wins for the first time this season. York heads home at 2-17, but their two wins have occurred in district play, which puts them at third place. York stands half a game ahead of Monterey for third place and should both teams maintain those positions, could be facing each other again in the upcoming district tournament.

DeKalb squares off with Livingston. DeKalb stands 1-7 in the district, standing in last place, a game behind Cumberland County. Livingston will finish their regular season at home, standing at 4-4 in the district. They stand tied with White County for third place, whom Livingston will play Friday night. Should the Wildcats win, Stone Memorial stands one game in front of Livingston for second place.

Upperman travels to White County. Upperman clinched the regular season championship and the one seed in their district in their victory Friday night. They face a Sparta team on a season high four game win streak, seeking to move up to the top three in a late season push.

Warren heads to Siegel. Warren concludes their three game road trip after winning in overtime Friday night against Coffee County. They face Siegel who stands at 13-11.

Pickett battles Gordonsville. Pickett has clinched a regular season championship Friday and concludes their season tonight. Gordonsville enters play at 15-10.

Jackson and Clay County battle. Jackson County will play their final non-district game of the season, standing at 20-2 and undefeated in their district. Clay County enters 16-5, playing their final home game of the season. They finished 5-3 in district play and will enter tournament play as either the second or third seed, depending on how Gordonsville fares tonight against Pickett.

Stone Memorial clashes with Cumberland. Stone Memorial begins a two game road trip, standing 5-3 in district play. They look to keep second place against Cumberland, who enters play 2-6 in the district, looking to avoid falling further down. Cumberland can clinch no worse than fifth place with a win tonight.

Cookeville travels to Smyrna. Cookeville can clinch no worse than third place in their district with a win, but aims for second place, standing a game behind Stewart’s Creek. They will need to beat Smyrna for the Friday night to take on added significance. Smyrna stands as the only team that can tie Cookeville, standing 3-5 in the district, two games behind Cookeville.

Van Buren faces Moore County. Van Buren looks to bounce back, losing four of their last six after winning their previous six games. Moore County enters play 4-17.
