The Jackson County Boys finished the regular season Thursday with a perfect 8-0 district record.
Jackson County’s senior class will graduate having gone 84-34 in regular season play. Head Coach Kevin Thomas said this group has accomplished some special things.
“I’ve seen this coming when these kids come in as freshmen,” Thomas said. “We started playing these kids the way they’re playing now when they were freshmen, and they had to understand for them to be successful, this is the way they had to play and that’s one of the fun things about being a high school coach.”
Jackson County finished first out of five teams in their district. The Blue Devils will receive a first round bye in the district tournament.
“These kids have, they’ve really battled and it’s good for them when they were younger to play against those bigger kids even at practice every day.” Thomas said. “I think that really helped them to come into that sophomore year and have some success.”
“You can tell a big difference between then and their physicality now as juniors. I think it starts way back there when they were freshmen and just having that mindset.”
The Blue Devils last loss came January 3 to Cumberland County, KY.
