Church Outreach Program Coming To Fentress

The Highlands Church of the Cumberlands is bringing its Daily Portion Outreach program to Fentress County this weekend.

Church Administrator Seth Vaughn said the outreach program started a year ago and has provided free haircuts, food, clothes, and toiletries to those in need. Vaughn said the church is bringing the outreach program to Jamestown as the church felt like now was the perfect time.

“A lot of people within the community are without heat and without warm food,” Vaughn said. “So we thought that during these cold temps, it would be a proper time to maybe host something at the church to be able to provide shelter for a short period of time as well as providing them a warm meal and some free clothes.”

Vaughn said the church got the idea to host an outreach program in Jamestown after the church received several requests from people in the community. Vaughn said the program not only meets the needs of the community but also spreads the gospel.

“We look to be the hands and feet of Jesus in all that we do,” Vaughn said. “So as a church that’s our goal is to spread the gospel and spread the kingdom so these events sort of co-exist with what we do at the church.”

Vaughn said the goal of the program is for all of the churches within the community to have a daily portion ministry to meet the needs of those in the community.

“We hope to be able to work with other churches in our community at these events,” Vaughn said. “A lot of churches started in the beginning with us and a lot of churches are still there so it’s not just a highlands thing. There are typically other churches who volunteer their time and so we want to be able to work together and unify as we are supposed to do.”

The outreach program will take place on Saturday from 12pm-4pm.
