Cordell Hull State Park Looking For Summer Workers

Cordell Hull State Park is taking applications for seasonal interpretive ranger positions for the upcoming summer season.

Park Manager Monique Johnson said seasonal interpretive rangers lead several park educational programs such as guided hikes, hands-on workshops, and children’s programs. Johnson said the positions are a great opportunity for college students who want to carve themselves a career path in the outdoor industry.

“It looks really good on a resume,” Johnson said. “You know you get to talk to people. The job is a lot of fun to be honest, and it’s just a really great way to see if this is the career path you want to take once you graduate college.”

Johnson said the positions will only be available for college students who are at least going into their junior year. Interested people can apply at the State Parks website.

“They want a little bit of kind of background in the outdoors or history just because you need to have that knowledge base to do the interpretive programs,” Johnson said.

Johnson said being a seasonal interpretive ranger will also help students gain real-world working experience.

“There is a lot of customer service involved with being a seasonal interpretive ranger,” Johnson said. “You’re the face of the state park that you are introducing. You know you are the person that people will recognize as their introduction to that park and so you will learn great customer service by working in this job and you will also learn how to be organized, and to learn about public speaking.”
