Algood Approves Site Plan For Amphitheater

The Algood Planning Commission approved a site plan for a new amphitheater for property located on West Wall Street.

The site plan suggested by Hope Church. It needed approval as the amphitheater is to be built in central business and low-density residential zones that surround the church.

UCDD Deputy Director Tommy Lee said in the previous meeting a mistake was made in saying the site plan had to have 1,237 parking spaces. Lee said the site plan only needs to have 237 parking spaces and that the amphitheater had 550 parking spaces accounted for.

Along with approving the site plan, Lee proposed that the commission approve a proposal to change the surrounding zones around Hope Church to central business zones. Lee said changing the zones would make it easier for the city to enforce in the future and that trying to enforce split zones is a nightmare. The commission approved to send the re-zoning request to the city council.
