TSSAA is set to hold their annual basketball camps this month.
The Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee (BCAT) will host their annual camp for both girls and boys basketball. The camps will be held in Lebanon for the girls and in Franklin for the boys. Over 90 coaches and 180 teams are expected to be a part of the camp. Cookeville Boys Head Coach Matt Hill will be among those participating. Hill said this time gives his team more ways to see how much they have improved.
“The last couple summers, we’re playing mostly Memphis schools or private schools that, you know, that we would hardly see in a regular season environment,” Hill said. “That’s unique in it of itself, just seeing some different play styles, obviously some different athletes than we’re used to around the Upper Cumberland in a lot of cases.”
The BCAT Boys Hoopfest is set for June 20th. It will last all day in Franklin before concluding on the 21st. The Girls Hoopfest will run from June 13th to June 14th in Lebanon. Hill said it is a great time for all kids to learn from the coaches there.
“Being on that stage and having coaches there, there’s excitement,” Hill said. “It kind of feels bigger than a summer camp game but yeah, that’s pretty neat and those guys really enjoy that.”
Hill said college coaches can also come and watch the teams in their live period.
“We’ll kind of be all around the mid-state, playing some teams that are kind of close to home,” Hill said. “But we don’t see them all the time on our schedule.”
The BCAT Hoopfest will also include teams from outside Tennessee. Teams from Alabama will also be a part of both the girls and the boys camp dates.
A shot clock is set to be implemented during games this summer. The shot clock was not used in high school basketball games last year.
