Van Buren County will make some upgrades to its solid waste department after receiving an estimated $138,000 grant.
The county will receive a 240-volt compactor, a 460-volt compactor, and six 40 cubic yard octagon receivers. County Mayor David Sullivan said the compactors will make upgrades in two locations.
“The 460 was one that we was gonna take it over there to the school,” Sullivan said. “And we can take the old compactor to whatever site that we want to. we just have to buy a different voltage motor to go on it and use it in a different location.”
The county had to provide a $13,000 match for the grant. Sullivan said the county had tried to get a truck for the solid waste department but was unsuccessful.
“There will be another bid coming up in September, a grant that we can apply for, and we can reapply for one then,” Sullivan said.
