Cookeville Cavaliers lacrosse player Isaac Lockry has seen change throughout his time in high school.
Lockry initially played football for the Cavaliers. He took up lacrosse starting his freshman year. Lockry said one key trait makes playing football and lacrosse for him successful.
“You have to be very fast,” Lockry said. “You have to be in shape, very in shape, to play. People think football is like a super physical sport, which it is and people think lacrosse, oh it’s not intense or anything, but once you actually put the pads on it gets super intense, really physical.”
Lockry enters his junior year at Cookeville High School. He also plays receiver and cornerback for the Cavaliers football team. Lockry said he worked hard to learn lacrosse quickly.
“[Football] definitely physically helps me stay in shape,” Lockry said. “It helps me be more physical to everything around me and it shows.”
Lockry said one of his friends who had been on the Cavaliers’ lacrosse team convinced him to try lacrosse out before his freshman year. Lockry said initially his sophomore year was not going the way he wanted.
“I would say my sophomore year when we first started the first few games, I didn’t play at my best with what I thought I could,” Lockry said. “But throughout the season I definitely progressed in a way that I would say is unlike anything else on my team.”
Lockry plays defensive midfield for lacrosse. Cookeville made the state tournament for the first time in school history in lacrosse last season. The Cavaliers look to return with Lockry anchoring the defensive midfield position.
