Bordeaux Transitioning From Home School To Cumberland

Volleyball player Shelia Bordeaux will be playing and studying at Cumberland County this fall.

Bordeaux will enter Cumberland County High School with two years left to play volleyball. Bordeaux will look to play setter for the Lady Jets. Bordeaux said she looks not to get down on herself heading into the regular season.

“That’s something really big I’ve learned and something that Coach Rodney [Howard] has really taught me is that you just move on,” Bordeaux said. “Everyone messes up, the best of the best mess up. You can watch nationals, you can watch college, they’ll miss serves, they’ll mess up sets, it just happens. It’s part of being human. It’s how God created us and that’s okay.”

Bordeaux played beach volleyball in the summer to prepare her for this upcoming season. Bordeaux also played travel ball. Bordeaux said while she never won playing travel ball, fellow setter Laila Howard helped Bordeaux develop her game.

“Laila has become my role model and how I learn and I watch what she does,” Bordeaux said. “She’s also my size and so that’s a little easier to watch and see in everything she does.”

Bordeaux said she tries to get in 200 sets a day at her home. Bordeaux said she would have more time to do that during her time being homeschooled.

“I can get up as early as I want, start school whenever, and then finish however early I want to,” Bordeaux said. “I have more practice time at my home.”

Bordeaux will compete for the starting setter role alongside Laila Howard. Bordeaux said she embraces the competition and is friends with Howard and the rest of the Lady Jets volleyball team.
