Putnam County Parks and Recreation wants input from residents on projects they would like to see across the county.
Parks and Rec Director Cody Maynard said the online survey is part of a master plan that the county and the UCDD are working on to improve parks and recreation offerings. Maynard said the Parks and Rec Department is hoping to get a grasp of what the public would like to see added or changed.
“We hear you know there’s stuff for smaller age but not your middle age group,” Maynard said. “So what would we like to see for young adults, young teenagers, that age group. What would you like to see for your smaller children? It’s literally open-ended just to see in what direction as a count that we would like to head.”
Maynard said the survey will be available until this Saturday. Maynard said the department will use the results to form the master plan, and once a plan is formed, the department, the City of Baxter, and the Town of Monterey will begin applying for grants to acquire funding.
“A lot of times that’s a big hold back, is funding for certain items,” Maynard said. “So if we are able to apply for more grants and larger amounts of grants, that opens the door for us.”
Maynard said the process of applying for grants may not start until the next fiscal year. Maynard said receiving input from residents is an important piece of the master plan process.
“In my opinion, that’s what the parks and recreation department does, is we try to upkeep,” Maynard said. “But then at the same time we try to have a better quality of life and improve the quality of life of the citizens in Putnam County, and opening this survey up to the public does that.”
Putnam County residents interested in filling out the survey can find the survey on the Putnam County Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
