Cookeville's Richmond Taking Everything in This Summer

Cookeville Cavaliers Offensive Lineman Tyson Richmond said he has been a bit reflective as football practice arrives this year.

Richmond stands as one of the 22 seniors on Cookeville this season. He is one of four senior offensive linemen expected to start for the Cavaliers. Richmond said it is surreal to think he will be a senior for Cookeville.

“It feels almost a couple of months ago I was a freshman coming in seeing those guys look just massive and now I’m like, oh that’s kind of me now,” Richmond said. “I’m up there; I’m supposed to be up front leading everything. It’s just kind of strange, not really something I was prepared for.”

Richmond said he thought initially he would have a lot more time to do everything.

“If you were to write a book, high school is like four chapters out of the 70 you’ll have,” Richmond said. “It just kind of hits you one day that man, I’m at the end, it’s almost over. So it’s almost kind of a final ride.”

Richmond said he wants to be remembered as a cornerstone for Cookeville.

“I think I just want to be remembered as somebody who helped build the program, be it like not just from the way I play, but the way that I present myself, the way that others can learn from me, the way that I encourage others,” Richmond said. “I just want to be like a foundational piece for Cookeville going into their future.”

Richmond said he expects to be a guard and center this year. He also expects to become defensive tackle this year. Richmond said he has played every offensive and defensive line position during his time at Cookeville.
