CRMC Renews Surgery Scheduling Program With Concerns

Cookeville Regional will continue with the hospital’s current surgery scheduling program, at least for now.

Finance Committee Chair Danny Rader said he has concerns about making the estimated $400,000 commitment to renew the program’s subscription.

“It’s my understanding from listening to some of the surgeons who are on the board that the system being used now definitely has some room for improvement, and this is something that may help with that,” Rader said. “I certainly hope that’s true. I’m inclined to vote for this tonight because of that.”

Rader said with the hospital expecting to transition to Epic Systems in November of 2026, the current system would go away. Rader said the program’s contract does give the hospital an out should they wish to cancel the subscription.

“It’s my understanding that the contract with Lean TaaS is such that within six months after we start this, we can cancel that and get our money back, which is a fantastic contract,” Rader said. “But still, it’s a significant change in the way we do things, to only potentially terminate that, go back to the way we were doing it, and wait for the Epic System to come online.”

Rader said Lean TaaS is trying to persuade Cookeville Regional not to leave the surgery program.

“It’s my understanding that Lean TaaS has really made a strong presentation that this is a better system than the Epic counterpart,” Rader said. “But part of the financial justification for Epic was we weren’t gonna spend this money, so if we are gonna have this and have Epic, then we are losing that money to.”

Rader said administrators will need to review the program and get back with the committee well within the six month period to see if the program has made any improvements.
