Tech Spirit Days Kickoff Fall Semester For Locals Monday

You might see more purple and gold around Cookeville over the next month as Tech Spirit Days began Monday.

Tennessee Tech Director of Marketing Promotions and Events Shanna Muncy said the event brings together the university, local businesses, and the community through special events. Businesses are also asked to display signs showing support for Tech. Muncy said the friendly atmosphere of the Cookeville community is often pitched when talking to prospective students.

“We also stress the support we get from our community and the people who live here,” Muncy said. “Students get good feelings about being welcomed into our community by the people who live here. That’s one way we want to show everyone why Cookeville is Tennessee’s top college town.”

Tech Spirit Days will have events until the first home football game on August 29. With the start of the fall semester just weeks away, Muncy said local businesses hosting events as part of Tech Spirit Days also helps new students acclimate to the community.

“I believe it actually pulls that community feel in for that student to make them know that ‘Hey, you know what, I’m a Tennessee Tech Student and I am part of this community’,” Muncy said.

Muncy said some of this year’s events will include the Connect with Cookeville event, Food Truck Friday, and several spirit competitions. Muncy said Tech Spirit Days bring excitement to the start of the fall semester.

“Students love it, the community loves it, the businesses love it,” Muncy said. “Everyone really likes to see that purple and gold on our city streets, in our yards, our front lawns, everywhere on campus and off campus.”

Muncy said this year’s sign is purple and gold and features the university’s “T eagle” logo with the saying, “Live Wings Up”. Muncy said anyone in the community can pick up a free yard sign at the Crawford Alumni Center or the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
