Overton In Need Of Information On Dead Body Discovery

The Overton County Sheriff’s Office needs more information regarding the dead body discovered inside a refrigerator last Friday.

The body found off Highway 164 near Sunk Cane Road. Overton County Sheriff John Garrett said investigators are currently working with limited information.

“I’m sure it will develop, but it just hasn’t yet,” Garrett said. “We don’t know the identity of the person, we’re not for sure about the gender of the person, we are not for sure about the age. I mean, there’s just so much we don’t know yet.”

Investigators initially looked into missing persons reports, but Garrett said that option has been exhausted. Garrett said if anyone has information related to the incident to please call the Overton County Sheriff’s Office.

“They could be from a different county, a different state, or maybe from across the nation,” Garrett said. “That’s one of the challenges our investigators are facing right now. Without the identity of this person, or knowing anything about them, or where they are from, I mean, we need that identity, and then that would really help move the investigation along.

Garrett said he believes county residents should not be worried about the incident.

“I don’t think there is any concern for the safety of the local population concerning this incident,” Garrett said. “I personally believe that this was an isolated incident.”

Garrett said TBI has investigators who specialize in these types of cases. Though TBI is involved, Garrett said the Overton County Sheriff’s Office is still assisting with the investigation.
