Cookeville Cavalier lacrosse player Caden Reed said he looks to improve on the intangibles this season.
Reed comes off his career high in goals scored last season as Cookeville made it to the state championship. Reed said the team played their hearts out last season. Reed said lacrosse is predicated on more than just being aggressive.
“A lot of lacrosse, it’s not about making the big plays, it’s about making the small plays,” Reed said. “Maybe giving an assist, not necessarily scoring goals, but assisting your teammates and helping them score the goals.”
Reed said throughout last season, the team maintained its composure. Reed said that trait is a positive for a young team going into this season.
“That’s a big part of lacrosse because there’s so many opportunities to score goals, make good passes, get a good ground ball, so it’s all about that next play mentality, which really helped me this year.” Reed said.
Reed is one of several seniors returning to Cookeville High School. Reed said after last season everything came full circle.
“It hit me pretty hard after our big loss in the playoffs against Farragut,” Reed said. “But it’s kind of a new eagerness to be better next year for our team and to come back better next year.”
Reed said he looks to become more confident in his game this season. Reed said he hopes to play college lacrosse after he graduates.
