Jackson's Crawford Finding New Devotion on Soccer Pitch

Jackson County Lady Blue Devils girls soccer player Kate Crawford said she hopes to play this season as much as possible.

Crawford switched to defense her freshman year after playing striker on the junior varsity team. Crawford said she enjoys the sport of soccer and what it brings to the table.

“It’s just super fun,” Crawford said. “I love sports. I love how active it is. There’s constant action. It’s fun to kick a ball rather than throw it cause I don’t have any arm strength at all.”

Crawford plays center defensive back for the Lady Blue Devils. Crawford said her initial reason for starting to play soccer had nothing to do with soccer itself.

“I wanted to run track but our school doesn’t have a track team, so soccer was the closest I could get,” Crawford said.

The Lady Blue Devils’ first game is currently scheduled for August 18th. Crawford said this year is a bit scary for her in her last season.

“There’s more at stake so it just feels like more intense,” Crawford said.

Crawford and the Lady Blue Devils set a program record for most wins last season. Jackson County returns three seniors this season, all of whom have played soccer throughout their high school career.
