Byrdstown trying to get past a delay with repaving the parking lot at Main Street Park.
Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said the contractor discovered some weak spots in the soil due to some water damage. The contractor stopped paving until the soil could be addressed. Gibson said the town is still unsure where the water damage came from.
“You know, we pulled that out and stopped at that point, pulled all that out, re-rocked it, packed it in good, let it settle, packed it a little more,” Gibson said. “So now we’ve got it ready for them whenever they (contractor) get back into town.”
Gibson said he has reached back out to the contractor to finish the project, but the contractor has yet to give him a date. Gibson said he is continuously contacting the contractor to see when they will return.
“Just kind of reminding them that ‘hey, don’t forget you got this little project, and as soon as you can, we would appreciate you getting it finished’ and, you know, getting through with it,” Gibson said. “So yeah, they will hopefully be here within a week or two.”
Gibson said he is looking forward to getting the repaving completed.
“We’ll be glad to get it done, get our gate open,” Gibson said. “Makes life a little smoother when we have like our second harvest, where we will do food giveaways there and so forth. and it gives people that extra out where you can have people coming in on one entrance and then going in a different area, so that keeps the flow, makes it smoother with the flow of traffic.”
Gibson said the repaving will have a good coat of pavement. Gibson said the hope is that even with the heavy use of the lot that the pavement will last for a long time.
