Clay County Football Facing Unique Blend of Quickness, Size

The Clay County Bulldogs football team will see some fresh faces in new locations this season.

Clay County’s schedule consists of multiple teams at the 2A Division this season. Clay County remained in the Single A District this season. Clay County Head Coach Bruce Lamb said on the surface, those 2A teams could stand out.

“They have more players,” Lamb said. “They have got great athletes, and it’s always good for our kids to see the speed and the size and the things we’re going to see in these games and this summer too.”

The Bulldogs competed in scrimmages against some of their 2A foes this summer. Lamb said the team will do so playing ironman football, a system in which the same players remain starting on both sides of the ball. Lamb said the ironman system gives his team opportunities to improve their conditioning heading into this season.

“We want to get better each week,” Lamb said. “By the time we get to the playoffs, the stuff that we see we should be used to by then.”

A portion of the Bulldogs’ football team also plays basketball. Lamb said no matter the sport, fans of Clay County can expect hard working teams.

“They’re super competitive and they’re gonna try to compete each week,” Lamb said. “That’s one thing that I love about this place is that I never have to say anything about playing hard because I know those kids are going to do that.”

The Bulldogs football team will spend some time on the buses to start its season. Clay County opens their season traveling to Glasgow, Kentucky.
