Jackson County girls soccer player Halea Turner said she made a big switch during her sophomore year.
Turner transitioned from defensive back to striker before the season started. Turner got encouragement from head coach Jordan Bryant and her Blue Devils teammates. Turner said her decision came down to what would best help the team.
“Two years ago, I was really focused on defense,” Turner said. “My freshman year we really needed someone to step in and fill that role, so I was all-defensive player, and so my sophomore year, I really had to transition to offense because that’s what the team needed, and it was a very big adjustment.”
Turner said she loves where she is now on the team. Turner enters her senior year playing striker for the third year in a row. Turner said she looks to build team chemistry to help the Blue Devils in practices and games.
“It’s been great,” Turner said. “Since I’ve been playing for so long, it’s kind of fun to see how the team changes each year. I just love getting out here every summer. It’s really bonding for me and my team.”
Turner said her motivation before going to every game comes from within.
“I am a really competitive person,” Turner said. “Whenever we get a good game in, it really helps me a lot. I love hearing from my coaches that I did good, and I really want to be better than most of the [Blue Devils.]”
Turner has taken up a routine with her Blue Devils teammates. Jackson County begins practices with strength training before working on conditioning.
Jackson County has started this season 1-2-1.
