Byrdstown Officials Concerned With Construction Progress

Byrdstown officials concerned about the progress on the town’s $4 million Water Treatment Plant Project.

Byrdstown Mayor Sam Gibson said the contractor is working on several different projects while working on the new water treatment plant. Gibson said he feels like the contractor has not given the plant enough attention.

“We feel like this one is a priority, and it is for us that they have a deadline and they just need to get focused on this project, and let’s get it completed, and then they can go to those and focus more on the other things,” Gibson said.

The town has already granted one extension that moved the deadline to October. Gibson said the contractor has not asked for a second extension, but he believes a second extension is likely.

“I just feel like they are probably not gonna meet the deadline that they got, but I hope that they do,” Gibson said. “If not, I can see them asking for an additional extension, and that would be something that we would just have to discuss and look at the reasons, you know.”

Gibson said if a second deadline extension is granted, it would likely extend the deadline another 30 days. Gibson said more potential delays are not ideal, but not detrimental.

“Anytime you have a project that’s got a deadline and they don’t meet it, it’s a little frustrating,” Gibson said. “But you know, we’ve been without it for many, many years, so another month or two would not be the worst thing that ever happened.”

Gibson said getting the new Water Treatment Plant finished will be a big step forward for Byrdstown. Gibson said the new plant will provide better water quality to residents.
