CRMC Foundation Hosting Family Bike Ride In Algood

The CRMC Charitable Foundation invites families to enjoy an Algood Bike Ride this weekend.

Foundation Director John Bell said the free event is family focused. Bell said Families in attendance can participate in one of two mile-long guided bike rides on the rail trail. Bell said it is good for kids to see their parents active.

“I think it’s important for families to build healthy habits and keep up with those,” Bell said. “And hopefully, this is something that they’ll have some memories doing. And it’ll spark some habits that’ll be great for the family and help them connect in a meaningful way that is also good for the heart and good for the soul so to speak in getting you outside and getting you active.”

The family bike ride event will be Saturday from 10 to 1 adjacent to the library. Bell said guided bike rides on the rail trail will be at 10:30 and noon.

Bell said he hopes preschool and elementary aged children and their families attend this event. Kids will have a supervised chance to learn how to ride their bikes. Parents are encouraged to ride alongside their children.

Bell said this will be an educational opportunity for kids who participate. Bell said there will be some activity stations for kids to learn about CPR, first aid, and bike repair.

“This just gives kids the opportunity to make basic repairs on bikes, get them a little more autonomy a little mpre flexibility in what they’re doing,” Bell said. “And knowing that those common obstacles come up, and you can deal with that yourself.”

Bell said biking is a great activity for families, and the rail trail is a great place for people to ride. Bell said the environment is well contained and safe for those wanting to ride as a family. Bell said people should try to bring their own bikes if possible.

“We have a very limited number of loaner bikes that will be on site,” Bell said. “But don’t let that prevent you. If you don’t have a bike, you can always walk the trail. That is perfectly fine.”

Bell said several families walk the rail trail during the event each year.

Bell said other activities at the family bike ride include a bike obstacle course and an appearance from a fire truck for kids who want to get wet. There will be snacks and hot dogs provided. The event is limited to the first 200 kids who check in.
