A White Plains Academy student who had gone missing Wednesday has been found by local authorities.
Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said his office responded to a call after a student ran away from school after an altercation with another student. A heavy presence of law enforcement searched the surrounding area looking for the missing student. Farris said the student was found thanks to a K9 unit.
“He was actually able to take an article off the desk of the student that had run off, and about an hour later was able to track the student up hiding in a brush pile,” Farris said.
Farris said it is believed the student was in the school’s office area when he slipped away.
“This is not something that this child has done before that we are aware of,” Farris said. “So hopefully this will be the last time that we have to deal with something like this with this student.”
Farris said he was proud of his staff for how they assisted with the search. Farris said every deputy does their job for the right reason.
“Most all the deputies are married and have children of their own, so they certainly understand when something of this nature occurs with the student and how the parent must feel,” Farris said. “So all hands were on deck and we were glad to be able to find the child fairly quickly.”
