Stone Memorial's Samber Preaching Consistency in Football

Stone Memorial Panthers Football Head Coach Derik Samber looks to avoid the same pitfalls that ended last season’s run early.

Stone Memorial finished last season with the fewest amount of wins since 2020. The Panthers finished 5-6, losing their final four games to end the season. Samber said he did not see consistency last season, and wants to see it applied to each individual.

“We’ve been preaching consistency,” Samber said. “We had some high highs last year but too many lows and too many low moments and lack of execution and misalignment, missed assignment, that sort of thing so we want to play at that high level consistently.”

Samber said he looks to establish the run through a few main backs this season. Stone Memorial enters this season with multiple backs from multiple classes receiving hand-offs. Samber said he used only one running back last season to try and keep the offense humming.

“We had Maddox Oqeundo as really a bell cow back,” Samber said. “We hadn’t really had that since I’ve been there, certainly haven’t had that consistently. He was a heavy lifter.”

Samber said he also looks to add new wrinkles in the Panthers’ defense.

“We’ve been pretty stagnant and predictable the past few years defensively,” Samber said. “This year, we expect to be more static and more unpredictable in what we’re doing.”

Samber said Panthers fans can expect motion pre-snap and post-snap. Stone Memorial has started this season undefeated at 3-0.
