Algood will rebid a project to repair the roof on the city’s public works shop, hoping to also get guttering updated.
The lone bid was an estimated $61,871. The project will consist of re-leveling the roof and improving drainage. Algood Public Works Director Walt Bradshaw said the roof is at least 28 years old and cannot be repaired.
“It’s not really leaking,” Bradshaw said. “It’s got a few rust holes in it from it being metal, and you know, outdated. And we’ve done a few patches on it, so I mean, right now it’s not leaking, but it is in need of repair.”
City Administrator Keith Morrison said he told the bidder that he wanted the gutters and downspouts replaced.
Bradshaw said it would not hurt if the council needs to wait to approve a bid.
“Well, on line nine it says the existing gutters and downspouts will remain in place,” Williams said. “And they’ve got us charged something like $6,000-$7,000 for gutters and downspouts.”
Morrison said he budgeted $125,000 for the project.
“I bid that much because of the LBJC roof cost being $107,000, and finding things that were wrong in the process that we didn’t know about,” Morrison said. “And then when I called and got this, he came in and offered this TPO membrane and guaranteed it for 20 years, and it’s quite a reduction in costs as having to strip everything down and redo it.”
Morrison said he will put another bid packet together and try to have bids ready by the October meeting.
