Grasty Looks To Write Final Chapter In Warriorettes’ Story

For White County Warriors girls basketball play Lakeland Grasty, some of the best moments in a basketball season do not show up in the box score. They live in the tension of a one-possession game, the roar of a crowd in overtime and the chills that come with walking through the tunnel in Murfreesboro.

Now, as she continues her senior season, Grasty said she hopes to add one more unforgettable chapter to a White County run that has already been defined by close calls and big moments.

Grasty is currently on pace to have a career year, averaging personal highs in both points and rebounds. Many of her biggest scoring nights came when the pressure was highest, in the tight games that decided district standings and postseason positioning.

“We went into overtime in the region. That was super fun,” Grasty said. “We had some one point games going to state. That’s something I’ll always remember.”

Grasty is part of a veteran core this year, joining five other seniors who know what it takes to win when the margin for error disappears. Grasty said the goal is clear: Get back to Murfreesboro.

“Not many teams get to experience that,” Grasty said. “It’s, when you come up to the tunnel, it’s like all the chills and it’s really fun. I would love to go back.”

Grasty said she has seen what the district has had to offer so far.

“Our district’s really good,” Grasty said. “We’re all very competitive. Every team we’re all rivals so we go against [everyone].”

After a season built on late-game execution and postseason intensity, Grasty said that every close game is another chance to sharpen the team for March.

With a proven scorer, a seasoned senior class and a history of thriving under pressure, White County enters the season chasing the same feeling Grasty remembers so well, the chills, the tunnel and another shot at a state run.
