The state asked Livingston Aldermen to amend the city’s current fiscal year budget.
Livingston Mayor Lori Elder Burnett said the city previously passed a five-cent property tax increase, but some of the numbers in the budget were not correct when the city submitted its budget to the state. Burnett said the budget has been corrected and that the amendment did not drastically change the budget.
“We had to add that property tax increase and send it back,” Burnett said. “We also had a couple of, like I said, minor things on the actuals that we noticed, and it actually improved the condition of the overall actual numbers, but they were very minimal.”
Burnett said the five-cent increase will create an additional estimated $79,000 in property tax revenue. Burnett said the budget will now be sent back to the state for review and approval.
“We were transparent with it in the beginning and then just, again, this was to get that resolution so we can move forward on getting that budget approved,” Burnett said.
Burnett said the reappraisal year through a wrinkle in things when forming a budget.
“You really don’t know your increase, or if you are allowed to, because there were additional steps to take in a reappraisal year to get that done,” Burnett said.
The aldermen unanimously passed the budget amendment.
