Livingston Set New Focus To Little And Cedar Street Improvements

With the completion of improvements to the square, Livingston is now setting a focus on a new project that will bring improvements to Cedar and Little Street.

Livingston’s Central Business District Project Coordinator Ray Evans said the project is sort of the missing link between the South Church Street and Spring Street Projects. Evans said the project will match the other improvements made in the downtown area.

“We’ll be constructing sidewalks on one side each of Little Street and Cedar Street,” Evans said. “We’ll be doing some drainage improvements, and we will be resurfacing and pavement markings, crosswalks, and signage as well.”

Evans said Livingston has received a grant from T-DOT that will cover 10 percent of the project cost. Evans said the project will essentially be the bow on the package for the series of downtown improvement projects.

“We’ve done everything else in that quarter along South Church and Spring Street,” Evans said. “And this just sort of is another cliche, but it’s the icing on the cake, so to speak. It’s the completion of the improvements and beautification in that part of downtown.”

Evans said ASA Engineering has already been selected to negotiate a contract for the design of the project. Evans said he expects ASA to finish cost proposals a week from now.

“Assuming that the numbers look right, we will be presenting that to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen in their December meeting for approval,” Evans said.

Evans said both streets currently do not have sidewalks and will improve walkability in the downtown area. Evans said he expects to complete construction documents within the next six months and submit for T-DOT approval and bid the project sometime next summer.

ASA Engineering is the same firm that is assisting Cookeville with the Depot Street Project.
