Upperman Bees football player Elijah Fitts has built a reputation for rising to the occasion, especially when the lights are brightest.
Fitts is not only one of the Bees’ most consistent offensive weapons, but also a voice of connection and confidence inside the locker room.
“We’re more connected,” Fitts said. “We’re more [friendly,] and we talk, everyone talks to each other, we communicate more.”
That connection has translated to production on the field. Fitts has made his mark against some of the toughest opponents on Upperman’s schedule, averaging nearly 90 receiving yards and a touchdown per game. Fitts said his best moments throughout his career have occurred against those tougher opponents, thanks to the chemistry he feels when being around the Bees.
“We got good chemistry,” Fitts said. “We go to the field a lot and talk a lot, we hang out outside of football.”
Fitts said his weekends and Friday nights don’t end with the final horn; they continue with film study and reflection with quarterback Bronzden Chaffin. Fitts said that is part of what separates him from other receivers in the region.
“Don’t be scared because of the name,” Fitts said. “Just go out there and attack and do your best.”
Fitts will spend his next few months after football attacking on the basketball court. Fitts will join the Bees basketball team when his run for football ends.
